Our office provides orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages. We are a small practice focused on providing quality results. Towards that end, much of your treatment will be provided by Dr. Thompson himself. Outstanding orthodontic treatment should not only improve your smile, but produce an occlusion, or bite, that can hold up over time
Types of Orthodontic Appliances
Braces – Metal brackets are bonded to the surface of teeth. U shaped flexible arch wires
are fit to the braces and the flexing wire provides the force to move teeth. Braces allow the quickest alignment of front teeth and can be used for moderate to severe
malocclusions. Our office uses braces made in the USA from the highest quality steel and titanium alloys. Dr Thompson utilizes the Wick Alexander Prescription which has been shown in published studies to provide the greatest long term stability.
Retainers – Used primarily to hold teeth in straight positions following orthodontic treatment. These appliance can also be used to move teeth small amounts. Lower retainers are typically bonded to the back surface of the lower teeth. Our office utilizes a titanium alloy retainer.
Invisalign/Teen Invisalign – Clear plastic trays fit over teeth and push the teeth into alignment. Invisalign or Teen Invisalign can be used for mild to moderate
A Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) is an upper appliance that places pressure on the upper jaw (maxilla) by turning a midline screw. The pressure separates the mid palatal suture thus making the maxilla wider, which can correct crossbites and creat space. RPEs are used often to correct posterior crossbites.
Habit appliances are used to repress and eventually eliminate the habit of tongue thrusting and thumb sucking which causes anterior flare. They are also used to help intrude posterior teeth. Habit cribs can be added to almost any appliance or as a separate fixed appliance (recommended to reduce patient compliance). In severe cases we can customize the appliance with spikes to help aid in the correction.
As the implies, this retainer was popularized by Dr C Hawley. Though not the inventor of the retainer (that credit belongs with Dr Norman Kingsley), Dr Hawley improved and modified the design of the appliance so well that his name is now synonymous witht the appliance. It is the gold standard of retainers because of its durability and functionality.
